COLUMBUS, Ohio. -
Illinois junior tennis player Ryan Rowe could not overcome a seasoned veteran in Todd Paul, a senior from Wake Forest, in his 6-4, 6-4 loss on Friday evening in the second round of the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus. Rowe, who could not get his game rolling on the hard courts of The Racquet Club of Columbus, ended his run at the annual event with his departure in the second-day of action.
"Ryan never really got in sync with the courts and the service," head coach Brad Dancer said. "He did a really good job of battling through the first round, but was off his game today. He did not serve the best and his opponent was more up to the challenge. It was a little disappointing, but still he made a lot of strides this weekend. He is a strong and physical player, and as he continues to improve his composure, he is going to become hard to beat."
Rowe and the Illini conclude their fall schedule when they take part in the annual USTA Illinois Challenger Nov. 11-18 at the Atkins Tennis Center.
