URBANA, Ill. – Illinois closes out its 2026 regular season with a dominant 4-0 win over in-state rival Northwestern. It was Senior Day for the Illini as Kenta Miyoshi, William Mroz, and Tyler Bowers were recognized before the match.
The Orange and Blue jumped out early, securing the doubles point with wins on courts 2 and 3. David Bakonyi and Zach Viiala struck first on court 3 with a 6-1 victory over Cooper Han and Owen Megargee of Northwestern. Freshman duo Gabriel Debru and Sasha Colleu would quickly follow with a 6-3 win over Cyrus Mahjoob and Vincent Yang.Â
Momentum continued for the Illini in singles play, with the hosts picking up wins on courts 3, 4, and 6. Freshman Adam Jilly made quick work of Northwestern's Han with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court 4. Bowers would be next to finish with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Megargee on court 6.Â
Fittingly, it was senior William Mroz who took the Illini home on Senior Day, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Chad Miller of Northwestern.
