The Illinois women's tennis team is set to host the 2006 Midwest Blast at the Atkins Tennis Center on Nov. 3-5, in Urbana, Ill. The event marks the first home event for the Illini this season, and the debut home tournament for freshmen Leigh Finnegan, Megan Fudge and Kristina Minor.
"This weekend will be a great opportunity for our girls to compete at home in front of a supportive crowd for the first and only time this fall," head coach Michelle Dasso said. "It is especially significant for our three freshmen that will be playing in their first official tournament at Atkins Tennis Center."
The tournament will play host to Louisville, Northern Illinois and Purdue in the three-day event. The format of the tournament will involve one flight of doubles with 16 teams and two flights (Orange and Blue) of singles with a total of 27 netters disbursed between the two flights.
Competing in doubles of Illinois will be the tandems of Fudge and Finnegan, sophomore Shivani Davé and Minor and senior Emily Wang and junior Momei Qu. The Illini will then be split up to compete in the singles brackets, where junior Alejandra Meza Cuadra will join them in the 27-player field.
