Young Fans Rub Shoulders With Student-Athletes

Nov. 17, 2005

The passion of the Orange and Blue is trickling down to kids at an early age, thanks to the Illinois Kids Club. The Illinois Kids Club was created to provide opportunities for young fans, eighth grade and younger, to interact with the student-athletes they cheer for during games.

Shawn Roof, Illinois baseball third baseman with Kids Club members at Bowling Day at the Illini Union.

Several special annual events, including a reading day, a bowling day, a pizza party, a movie day, a mini-golf outing, and a spring bash, are organized to let the student-athletes and young fans interact together and have some fun!

Illinois Kids Club members between the ages of 10 and 13 also have the chance to become ball kids for a variety of Illinois varsity sports. Also included with membership is an official Kids Club T-shirt and an ID card good for free admission to all Illini sporting events, except football and men's basketball.

Over 350 strong, members of the Kids Club come from across the area, state, and region to cheer on Illinois sports and range in age from one to 13. Memberships begin August 1 of every year and run until July 31 of the next year. New memberships are $25 and renewals are only $15.
