Boerne, Texas - The Illini began play at the Baylor-Tapatio Spring Shootout today, posting an opening round 314, good for sixth place in the 19-team field. The Baylor-Tapatio Spring Shootout is being held in Boerne, Texas at the 5,185 yard, par-72 Tapatio Springs Golf Resort. Texas Tech, opening with a 296, holds a one shot lead over Indiana.

Leading the way for the Illini was senior Marla Cox. Cox opened with an even-par 36 on the front side and followed that up with a 38 on the back en route to a 2-over par 74 to put her in a tie for eighth place. Senior Michelle Carroll finished four shots behind Cox, shooting a 78 to put her in a tie for 27th place. Also competing for the Illini were sophomore Megan Godfrey and junior Megan O'Neal, each opening with scores of 81, and freshman Meghan Naik, who finished with an 85.

The Baylor-Tapatio Spring Shootout resumes play tomorrow, March 20th with a second round of 18 holes, set to begin at 7:30 AM. The final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament will be played Sunday, March 21.
