Nov. 10, 2004
University of Illinois freshman jumper Nick Brown earned All-America accolades from Track and Field News for his efforts during his senior campaign. Brown, who will compete in the triple jump and the long jump as an Illini, was recognized in the November 2004 issue of the magazine.
The All-America selections were based on an athlete's finish in individual meets that occurred after the close of the regular prep season.
Brown was tabbed as the top long jumper after placing first in the Illinois state meet and the USATF Juniors meet, second at the Golden West Invitational and fifth at the U.S. Junior Olympics. The Proviso East graduate was also the fourth-ranked triple jumper after winning the event at the state meet, taking second at the Golden West Invitational and the U.S. Junior Olympics and placing 11th at the USATF Juniors meet.
In addition to Brown's All-America honors, the magazine had two Fighting Illini relay teams ranked in the top-10 in its National Relay Rankings. The Illini 4x800m team of Tramell Smith, Aaron King, Zach Glavash and Jeremy Kruidenier was ranked eighth and the 4x1600m team of Jason Bill, Jon Houseworth, Tim Hobbs and Pete Stasiulis earned a tenth place ranking.
The Fighting Illini are scheduled to begin their season at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. on January 8, 2005.
