Champaign, Ill. -
Five University of Illinois women's golfers have been named to the 2002-03 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar team. The honorees are seniors Stephanie Cheney, Laurin Kanda, Carmel Sielicki and Renata Young and junior Michelle Carroll.
A total of 192 student-athletes were named to the Division I team. Illinois' total of five recipients tied for the highest number in the nation among Division I schools. The other two schools with five golfers on the team were Nebraska and Notre Dame.
To receive consideration for placement on the NGCA All-American Scholar team, golfers must be in their sophomore year or above, have a GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale, (3.4 or better for seniors) and play in over two-thirds of the season's competition.
This marks the third year in a row that Illinois has had the most golfers of any program in the nation listed on the NGCA All-American Scholar Team.
