Illinois Baseball Falls To Indiana State

Box Score

Champaign, Ill. - The University of Illinois baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to Indiana State on a chilly Tuesday evening at Illinois Field. With the loss Illinois drops to 14-10 on the year while Indiana State improves to 22-5 on the season.

"We just did not get any clutch hits when we needed to," Illinois head coach Itch Jones said. "They got 13 hits while we only got six, and you're not going to win many games when a team doubles your hit total."

After a scoreless two innings, Indiana State got on the board in the top of the third inning.

Jordan Bichanich and Michael Miller led off with back-to-back singles off Illini starter Brian Blomquist. Josh Prickett followed with a single that scored both Bichanich and Prickett. A one-out double off the bat of John Purdom followed to plate Prickett and give Indiana State a 3-0 lead.

The Sycamores added to that lead in the fifth inning. Prickett doubled to right with one out and scored when Kevin Egli followed with an RBI single.

Blomquist suffered the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year after allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Indiana State starter Brian Woods earned the win to improve to 4-1. He threw seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing seven hits while striking out four.

Offensively, Eric Eymann and T.F. Meagher collected a pair of hits each for Illinois.

Illinois returns to action Wednesday night with a 6:35 meeting against MacMurray College at Illinois Field.
