The Fighting Illini sent eight swimmers to Federal Way, Washington to compete in the US Open that began today and runs through Saturday. As day one nears completion, the Illini will have already faced the most elite talent they will see all year as many future and former Olympians compete in the three day event.
Ilkay Dikmen had a successful day in the 100 breast as she qualified for the finals with a time of 1:12.84 in the prelim. In the final Dikmen finished 20th with a time of 1:12.78 coming up just short of scoring. Former Illini star Jessica Aveyard finished 15th in the 200 back with a time of 2:21.00. Aveyard is swimming unattached and with the 15th place finish earned 2 points.
The US Open continues all day Friday and Saturday.
