TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Jana Gallagher and freshman Ashley Williams represented the University of Illinois at the NCAA South Central regional at Wells Fargo Arena at Arizona State University.
"Both athletes did very well. I was impressed since they were not competing with their team," head coach Bob Sarkell said.
In her third trip to regionals and her second-straight appearance as an all-arounder, Gallagher accumulated a total score of 38.275 to finish 12th overall. Her highest score of the night was on the balance beam. She took 17th overall, scoring a 9.750. Gallagher also recorded scored of 9.600 on both the uneven bars (26th) and the floor exercise (T32). She scored a 9.325 on the vault finishing 37th.
In her first collegiate season, Williams, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, totaled a 37.750 to finish 16th in the all-around. With a 9.575, Williams tied for 34th on the floor exercise. She also recorded scores of 9.425 on the beam (39th), 9.400 on bars (33rd) and 9.350 on vault (T35th).
