The University of Illinois football rookie class of 2001 kicked off double session workouts on Monday on the Memorial Stadium turf with position drills and seven-on-seven scrimmaging. The 31 newcomers battled through 90-degree heat in their debut in Illini uniforms.

The squad began the first of the two-day camp for rookies alone, but were joined by veterans Robby Long, Christian Morton, Marc Jackson and Patrick Rouse, who were on-hand to check out the newest members of the Illinois squad.

The second day of rookies camp will take place on Tues., Aug. 7 with practices at 9:15 and 3:15. The veterans will report to campus on Wed., Aug. 8, followed by the annual Fan Appreciation Day on Thurs., Aug. 9 from 6-8 at Memorial Stadium.
