Men finish final day at Drake Relays

Highlighting action at the final day of the Drake Relays for the Illini men, senior Sherman Armstrong placed third in the Invitational section of the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.77 seconds, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. This was an outstanding performance for Armstrong considering the senior has been nursing an injury since the indoor season. The only two competitors that were able to defeat Armstrong were Baylor's David Kamani (a former NCAA champion) and professional hurdler David Woody.

In the Distance Medley Relay, UI took 11th with a time of 9:57.79. Sophomore Aaron Wahls (1,200m), juniors Josh Harford (400m) and Nick Gow (800m) and senior Dan Horyn (1,600m) comprised the team.

In the field, sophomore Bernard Grady placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 55 feet, 5-3/4 inches (16.91m). And rounding out the Illini competitors, junior Jason Van Swol finished 9th in the special invite section of the men's 800 meter run, clocking 1:54.59.

The men will next compete when they host the Illini Twilight at the UI Outdoor Track on May 11.
