The Illinois men's track and field team finished third in a scored triangular meet this afternoon at Indiana University against the host Hoosiers and Eastern Michigan. The Illini finished the meet with 63 points behind Indiana (156 points) and Eastern Michigan (139 points).
The Illini men won three events at Indiana, highlighted by the performance of senior Sherman Armstrong. Armstrong, who had seen limited action since an injury during the indoor season, ran strong at Indiana. In his first individual event of the outdoor season, he blew away the competition in the 400 meter hurdles by nearly three seconds in posting a winning time of 52.28 seconds.
Armstrong also spearheaded Illinois' victorious 4x400 meter relay, which clocked a season's best 3:13.93 to defeat Indiana by over four seconds.
Senior Dan Horyn extended his winning streak outdoors to a perfect three for three after claming victory in the 1,500 meter run with a season's best time of 3:52.98.
Junior Jason Van Swol placed second in the 800 meter run with an outdoor season's best 1:52.51 and in the field, senior Tom Marchese finished runner-up in the pole vault competition, vaulting an outdoor season's best 16 feet, 4-3/4 inches.
The Illini men and women return to the track on Tuesday, April 24 as they host the Midweek Twilight at the UI Outdoor Track & Field Stadium. Field events begin at 2 p.m. with running events beginning at 5 p.m.
