Illinois Takes Second At Illini Spring Classic

URBANA, Ill.-- The Illinois women's golf squad shot a final round of 309 at the 72-par, 5,842-yard Stone Creek Golf Club. The Illini finished with a tournament total of 622 strokes to finish second at the Illini Spring Classic, three strokes behind Notre Dame (619).

Freshman Marla Cox continued to play well as she tied for third place with a two-round total of 153. Cox has now finished among the Top 10 in all four of Illinois' spring competitions. Illinois State's Nicole Foy was the individual champion with a 151.

Joining Cox in the top ten were Renata Young and Mari Walters. Young recorded a tournament total of 155 to finish sixth. Walters, who was competing as an individual, tied for seventh place with a 156. Freshman Michelle Carroll also had a good tournament. She tied for 12th place with a 158. Laurin Kanda shot a tournament total of 159 to tie for 16th. Stephanie Cheney, who was competing as an individual, also finished in the Top 20. She tied for 18th place with a score of 160. Carmel Sielicki finished the tournament tied for 28th with a 163. Competing as individuals, Kate Peters tied for 79th (186) and Carol Mayer finished 82nd (193)

The Illini hope for more success as they head to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Lady Buckeye Invitational on April 21-22.
