LAKESIDE, Calif.-- The final round of the Lady Aztec Invitational was cancelled due to rain on Tuesday. The scores from Monday's first round will stand as the final results of the competition. The score of 322 the Illini posted on Monday was good enough for fifth place in the 16-team field, 11 strokes behind the first place teams: Brigham Young and Michigan at 311 strokes.
Freshman Marla Cox led the way for the Illini. Cox tied for fifth place after shooting a 77 in the first round of the spring season. Sophomore Laurin Kanda tied for 12th after a shooting 79 on the 72-par, 6,140-yard Barona Creek course.
Sophomore Carmel Sielicki shot an 82 in the only round. Sielicki and teammate Michelle Carroll, who competed as an individual, tied for 34th. Renata Young shot an 84 in the first round of the season. Young tied for 48th. Stephanie Cheney tied for 60th place with an 18-hole score of 86.
The Illini will have approximately a month off as they prepare for their next event: the Snowbird Invitational in Tampa, Fla. on March 15-16.
