Illini Finish 14th At Iona Meet of Champions

Van Courtland Park, N.Y. - The Illinois men's cross country team participated in the annual Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions, hosted by Iona University. The Illini finished 14th out of 23 teams in the meet, which featured a number of nationally ranked teams including top programs from throughout the east coast. The host Iona won the meet with a score of 71, just edging out William & Mary, which was second with a total of 73. Rounding out the top five were Princeton (90), Dartmouth (146), and Boston University (156). Illinois finished with a team score of 400.

Leading the way for the Illini in the five mile race was senior Ryan Eason. He finished 54th overall with a time of 25:52.3. Scoring second for Illinois was senior Dan Horyn, who placed 70th in a time of 26:03.8. Senior Mike Lucchesi was third for the Illini and 107th overall in a time of 26:30.7. Illinois' final two scoring runners were a pair of freshmen: Tim Seiwert (113th place with a time of 26:34.5) and Adam Palumbo (126th place with a time of 26:43.5).

Illinois is off next weekend as it prepares for its next competition, the Pre-NCAA Meet, hosted by Iowa State University, on October 14.
