MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Illini shot a final round of 316 to close out their first tournament of the 2000 fall season. Illinois had a tournament total of 938 strokes to tie with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The final round split the tournament field of 31 teams into two groups. The top 18 teams after the first two rounds were scored against each other while the 19-31 teams were paired against each other on a separate course. The Illini tied for 11th in the upper bracket of 18 teams.

Sophomore Renata Young (Rogers, Ark.) led the Illini for the second straight day. Young shout a 77 in the final round of the competition to tie for 17th place. Laurin Kanda (Chico, Calif.) fell to 27th place after shooting a 79 in the final round. Newcomer Marla Cox (Lima, Ohio) moved up to finish in 36th place with a total of 234 strokes. Sophomore Carmel Sielicki (Modesto, Calif.) tied for 78th with a tournament total of 245. Sophomore Mari Walters (Lake Oswego, Ore.) finished in 88th place with 258 strokes.

The Illini will be off until September 23 when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to compete in the Fossum Invitational.
