Oshinowo Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Award Winner

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. - University of Illinois track and field athlete Ade Oshinowo (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley HS) has been named a 2000 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award Winner. Recipients were announced in the magazine Black Issues In Higher Education, and were chosen based on a combination of academic and athletic achievement.

Oshinowo earned first-team distinction in the category for women's track and field and cross country athletes. She recently completed her sophomore season with the Illini track team, where she competes in the shot put, weight throw, and discus. Oshinowo is a three-time placewinner at the Big Ten Championship level, twice in the shot put and once in the discus.

In the classroom, Oshinowo is enrolled in the honors biology program, carrying a 3.8 cumulative grade point average.
