BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Illinois freshman Renata Young shot an 84 today to lead the Illini in the first round of the Indiana Invitational. She is tied for 35th place. Freshman Laurin Kanda is one stroke behind Young. Kanda is tied for 44th after shooting a first round 85.
Overall, the Illini are tied for 13th place out of 15 teams. Both Illinois and Northern Illinois shot opening rounds of 347 at the 74-par, 6,134 yard Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
The tournament was originally scheduled to have three rounds, but the weather has shortened it to a two-round event. The Illini will play in the second and final round of the Indiana Invitational on Sunday.
