CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois junior righthander Jason Anderson
was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week this afternoon by the conference
office. The Illini ace posted a 2-0 record last week that included a
two-hit,
complete game shutout of the Northwestern Wildcats in conference play.
Anderson's two-hitter against the Wildcats was the first two-hitter of his
career and his third career shutout. He went nine complete innings, striking
out six to improve to a team-best 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in two Big Ten
starts as Illinois won 5-0 to jumpstart its weekend sweep of NU. He also
picked up a midweek win after starting at Southern Illinois and throwing
three innings in a tune-up for his start on Friday. He allowed only one hit
to earn the win as Illinois beat the Salukis, 15-5.
Anderson, a preseason All-American, now owns a 20-3 career record and 10-1
career mark in the Big Ten. With his 2-0 week, Anderson moved into fourth
place on Illinois' career winning percentage list and into a tie for sixth
place on Illinois' career wins list.
Anderson and his teammates return to action on Wednesday, hosting Western
Michigan in a 2:05 p.m. doubleheader. Michigan invades town this weekend for
a four-game conference series. Friday's game one is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.,
Saturday's doubleheader is at 4:05 p.m. and Sunday's game four is at 1:05
p.m.
