COLUMBUS, Ohio - The fifth-ranked Illinois men's gymnastics team fell to No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Ohio State in Big Ten action in Columbus Saturday night. Illinois finished the night with at team score of 225.350 to Ohio State's 229.950 and Michigan's 229.900. The Illini's record now stands at 7-4 overall, 5-4 in the conference.
Junior Linh Hoang (Houston, Texas) led the team with a first-place finish on vault, breaking the school record with a 9.90. He also finished third in the all-around, scoring a personal best 56.60. Also tallying a personal best was sophomore J.G. Ketchen(Knoxville, Tennessee) with a 9.775 on rings, giving him third place finish. SophomoreSean-Paul Crawford (Buena Park, California) tied Hoang for third on floor with a 9.65.
The Illini were competing without senior All-American Travis Romagnoli (Aurora, Ontario). Romagnoli sprained his ankle in practice earlier this week.
"I thought that we completed well without Travis," Illinois head coach Yoshi Hayasaki said. "It shows how determined these men are to succeed."
The Illini will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Huff Hall as they host the Penn State Nittany Lions. The meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT.
