PARRISH, Fla.--Illinois sophomore Laurin Kanda recorded her second straight top 10 finish this afternoon. Kanda tied for 8th place in the Central District Classic with a score of 232 (76-80-76). She led the Illini throughout the season, including a sixth place finish at the UALR Lady Trojan Invitational a week ago.
As a team the Illini finished sixth in the 11-team tournament. The Illinois squad showed consistency as it recorded three rounds of 318 in the tournament at the 72-par, 6,113-yard River Wilderness Country Club.
Renata Young carded an even-par 72 in the second round, which helped her move up in the standings after shooting an 88 on Monday. She shot an 80 in the final round to tie for 28th place with a tournament total of 240 strokes. Newcomer Michelle Carroll shot a 244 in the tournament to tie for 37th. Carmel Sielicki was one stroke behind Carroll. With a 245, Sielicki finished 40th. Stephanie Cheney shot 253 in the tournament to finish 49th.
The Illini are off until spring competition begins Feb. 23-25 in Dallas Texas.
