CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The fifth-ranked Illinois men's gymnastics team dominated No. 10 Michigan State and scored its highest mark of the year, 225.825-220-825, in Big Ten action at Huff Hall Saturday night. With the win, the Illini improve to 7-2 overall, 5-2 in the conference.
Junior Linh Hoang (Houston, Texas) led the team with first-place finishes on floor with a career-high mark of 9.725 and still rings with a 9.65. He also placed second on parallel bars with a 9.775. Senior All-American Travis Romagnoli (Aurora, Ontario) posted first-place marks of 9.550 on high bar and 9.50 on vault.
Sophomore Sean-Paul Crawford (Buena Park, California) tied for first on vault with Romagnoli and Leo Oka with his 9.50, while also taking second on floor with a 9.70. Junior Greg Cook (Batavia, Illinois) set a new school record on parallel bars with his 9.90 mark
"We put up a pretty good score, but really didn't have a very good meet," Illinois head coach Yoshi Hayasaki said. "It just goes to show you what this team's potential is. Our high bar performances suffered, but we looked great on floor and still rings."
The Illini will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Columbus, Ohio as they take on the third-ranked Buckeyes. The meet is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
