CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fighting Illini swimming and diving have a little work to makeup after
the first day of the Big Ten Quad duals in Minneapolis, Minn.
Friday's results have the Illini trailing all three of their conference
foes. Illinois trails host Minnesota 125-60, Wisconsin 99-85 and Purdue
94-91. Junior Anna Christiansen paced the Illini with a win in the 200 IM
with a time of 2:04.90 while senior Betsy Nagel also earned victory in the
50 free with a mark of 24.58. Junior Darcy Adler scored a second-place
finish in the 100 breast, in 1:04.23.
Both Illinois relays took third with the team of Christiansen, freshman
Astrid Matthias, senior Marcie Black and sophomore Kathy Kielty clocking a
7:45.95 in the 800 free and Adler's team of freshman Alison Czmarko, junior
Molly Busch and senior Traci Bollinger swimming 1:47.42 in the 200 medley.
In the 200 free, senior Emily Wang was third with a time of 1:51.71.
Freshman Sara O'Fallon took fourth in the 100 back, in 58.24, followed by
the fifth-place showing of Czmarko with a time of 58.61. In the 1000 free,
senior Kelly Handel placed third (10:16.26) and sophomore Jen Peters
finished fourth (10:17.40).
In diving, junior Jessica Ohr finished seventh on the three meters with
a score of 361.80.
The Big Ten Quad concludes on Saturday and the starting time is slated
for noon.
