COLUMBUS, Ohio - Laurin Kanda (Chico, CA/ Pleasant Valley HS) shot a 77 on the final day of the Lady Northern placing her in a tie for 11th. The freshman was consistent throughout the tournament with scores of 76, 77 and 77 giving her a tournament total of 230.

Freshman Renata Young (Rogers. Ark./Bentonville HS) had her best day of the competition on Sunday shooting a 4-over-par 76 on the 5,962 yard, par 72 course. She finished in a tie for 68th with a weekend total of 251.

Another freshman, Stephanie Cheney (Mill Valley, CA/Marin Catholic), also contributed her best round of the weekend. Her round of 79 placed her in a tie for 87th with a tournament score of 264.

"It's very exciting that the three freshmen came through with such fine scores," said Illinois women's golf head coach Paula Smith.

Senior Nell Macke (Marshall, Ill./Marshall HS) also contributed to the score with an 82 bringing her total to 258. She finished 81st in the tournament.

As a team, the Fighting Illini moved up one place after the final day of competition. They finished 14th overall in the 16 team tournament. Their Sunday total of 314 was 20 strokes below their score of 334 on Saturday and 29 fewer than the 445 they shot on Friday.

"It was very encouraging," Smith said. "Everyday they kept learning and improving. Everybody on the team contributed."
