Newcomer Tied For 11th After First Round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After 18 holes of play at the Lady Northern Golf Tournament freshman Laurin Kanda (Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley HS) is tied for 11th place. She shot a first round 4-over 76 to set the pace for the 15th place Fighting Illini.

As a team the Illini shot a 345 on day one of the tournament. The second finisher for Illinois was senior Nell Macke (Marshall, Ill./Marshall HS). She shot an 87 which put her in a tie for 80th. Other Illini contributing to the first round score were freshman Renata Young (Rogers, Ark./Bentonville HS) who shot a 90 placing her 87th and senior Christine Scott (Lockport, Ill./Lockport HS) who is tied for 88th after shooting a 92.

So far the tournament is being dominated by Illinois' Big Ten Conference opponents. Eight of the top ten teams in the 16 team tournament are conference opponents.

Tomorrow the Illini will resume play at University Ridge Golf Course (6,033 yds/ par 72) in Madison, Wisconsin.
