The Fighting Illini swimmers continued their weekend dominance at
IMPE Pool with a 171-63 victory over the Rice Owls on Saturday.
Illinois, now 3-0 on the year, finished first in 11 of the 15
events. Senior Traci Bollinger capped off her strong weekend performances
with wins in the 50-yard free, in 24.32, and 100-yard free, in 52.62. The
two 2000 Summer Olympic Trials qualifiers on the UI roster also recorded
multiple wins. Junior Darcy Adler placed first in the 100-yard breast with
a time of 1:05.35 and in the 200-yard breast with a mark of 2:24.04. With a
time of 4:29.24, junior Anna Christiansen won the 400-yard IM and took
first in the 500-yard free, in 5:05.01.
In 57.86, freshman Astrid Matthias claimed victory in the 100-yard
fly. Holding the school record in the 1650-yard free, sophomore Jen Peters
won the event with a time of 17:11.50.
The Illini stay at home next weekend, hosting the Dual Meet
Extravaganza Nov. 5-7.
