Dad's Day

Illinois Block I Students

The University of Illinois has two major weekends dedicated to Illinois moms and dads. In the fall, it hosts its annual Dad's Weekend. Dad's Weekend is centered on Dad's Day at Memorial Stadium for an Illinois football game. There are events scheduled all over campus set up Friday through Sunday, so even if parents just want some quiet time with their kids, there are a variety of activities to choose from.

Saturday's festivities kick off with a Dad's Pre-Game BBQ at the Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC) two hours before the football game. Announced during the game is the annual "King Dad" award. A tradition "The Dads Association" has maintained for more than 30 years, students nominate their dads to see who will be recognized as being the most supportive, encouraging and inspirational Illini father – even though all Illini dads fit the bill. The University of Illinois Dads Association was formed in 1922, as one of the first parent programs in the country.
