Illinois Block I Students

The football student cheering section is one of the oldest student cheering sections in the country. The “Block I" creates a recognizable center for cheering in Memorial Stadium and allows for students to participate in all home football games. The Block I cheering section is located in the North end zone of the stadium and incorporates the center two sections of the student seating as well as part of the far east side sideline seating area. The cheering section is best known for their loyalty to the football team and entertaining halftime card stunts, during which pictures are created by the members in attendance.

Aside from having some of the best seats in the house and being able to participate in the tradition of performing card stunts, Block I members receive perks throughout the season. Members are given the opportunity to meet football team members and speak with coaches at pep rallies. Additionally, members are invited to tailgate before every home game out in front of Memorial Stadium and are dually invited to participate in the watch parties that take place for the away games. Lastly, loyal members receive the opportunity to travel along with the team on the annual Block I road trip.
