Education:
Freeze earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from North Park University in Chicago in 2020 and a master’s degree in exercise science from Aurora University in 2021.
Job Responsibilities:
Freeze currently oversees and programs all phases of strength and conditioning for softball, men's gymnastics, and women’s gymnastics programs at Illinois.
Past Experience:
Prior to joining Illinois Strength, Freeze spent August 2020 to April 2021 with the University of Arizona Olympic Athletic Performance Staff in Tucson, Ariz. He primarily worked with volleyball, baseball, women’s basketball, men's and women's tennis, and swim and dive programs.
While completing his master’s degree, Freeze served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach with Aurora University in Aurora, Ill., from May 2020 to June 2021. Freeze worked with women’s lacrosse, baseball, softball, women’s basketball, and track and field during his time with Aurora, while also overseeing the strength and conditioning internship program.
Prior to Aurora University, Freeze served as a volunteer performance intern with Loyola University Chicago from August 2019 to April 2020. He worked with softball, women’s basketball, and men's and women's volleyball while overseeing and implementing the strength programs for men's and women's golf.
In the summer of 2019 Freeze served as a performance intern for Acceleration Sports Performance in Naperville, Ill. He worked with athletes across a wide spectrum of sports and skill levels as young as 6 years old up to professional level athletes.
Personal:
Michael Freeze currently resides in Champaign, Ill. His hometown is the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, lll., where his immediate family still resides. He is a former collegiate athlete, having played baseball for four years at North Park University. Freeze holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), USA Weightlifting, and first aid, CPR, and AED.
