Horve enters his first season as an Illinois men's tennis assistant coach in 2025-26. Horve returns to his alma mater, where he spent all six years of his collegiate career.

“Lucas has been a part of our program for such a long time now. He knows and understands the nuances of how things are done the right way,” Dancer said. “He’s a man of impeccable character. Lucas’ understanding of our sport is growing constantly. He evolved as a player, and I’m excited to watch him evolve as a coach. The student athletes, alumni, and our whole tennis community are lucky to have him.”

“I’m beyond excited to return to Illinois, this time as part of the coaching staff,” Horve said. “Having worn the Orange and Blue as a player just a couple of years ago, it’s an honor to now give back to the program and community that have had such a meaningful impact on me. Illinois Tennis has an incredible history, and I’m eager to bring my energy, passion, and experience to help the next generation of Illini build on that legacy.”

Horve competed at Illinois from 2018-24, amassing 60 doubles wins and 39 singles victories during his time as a student-athlete with the Orange and Blue. Climbing as high as No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings, Horve totaled 27 doubles triumphs in his final collegiate campaign in 2023-24.

A native of Forsyth, Illinois, Horve has played professionally following his graduation in 2024, reaching a career-best ATP doubles ranking of No. 431 in October 2024. He secured a runner-up finish in the men’s double draw at ITF M15 Palm Coast in Florida in January, and he also progressed to the doubles final at ITF M25 Pensacola in May 2024 and ITF M25 Edwardsville in July 2024. During his final season at Illinois, he advanced to the doubles final at the Champaign Challenger in November 2023.

An Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2023, Horve earned his bachelor's degree in communication in May 2022 before completing his master's degree in management in May 2024.
