Education:
A 1996 graduate of Bellevue University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, Hug earned an associate's degree from Iowa Western Community College in 1994 and a master of business administration (MBA) from Bellevue University in January 2000.
Past Experience:
Kathy Hug became an assistant athletic director at the University of Illinois in August of 2002 after spending five years in event management at the University of Nebraska.
Hug began her career at Illinois in event management, and has overseen many NCAA championships. In her tenure at Illinois, she has also been sport administrator for up to six sports, liaison for the band and cheerleaders, and also worked with the Varsity Room. Most recently, she has also worked on renovation projects for various athletic facilities.
Personal:
A native of Bellevue, Neb., Hug played both volleyball and softball at Iowa Western Community College and then was a three-sport athlete at Bellevue University (volleyball, soccer and softball). She was named Bellevue University's Athlete of the Year in 1997. Hug was also named a NJCAA second team All-American (1993) in volleyball at Iowa Western. In 2012, Hug was named to the Iowa Western Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2015, she was named to the Bellevue University Athletic Hall of Fame.Â
Kathy has also been active in volunteering in the community. As a two-time breast cancer survivor, she is involved with various supports group for breast cancer survivors and also works with the American Cancer Society by being a Reach for Recovery volunteer who speaks to newly diagnosed patients about her experience.
Hug and her husband, Casey, a native of Lincoln, Neb., have one daughter, Taylor.
