Education:
Gesteland received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in strength and conditioning from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and his master’s degree in sport and coach education from West Virginia University.
Job Responsibilities:
Gesteland works with women’s golf and cheer while assisting with men’s golf, volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, and cross country and track and field.
Past Experience:
Gesteland started his coaching career as a student-coach at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh assisting with all women’s soccer, volleyball, football, wresting, and men’s and women’s basketball. He went on to be an intern at the University of Michigan assisting all Olympic Sports there. Gesteland was then promoted in 2019 to an Olympic Sports strength and conditioning Fellow at the University of Michigan and worked primarily with cross country, and track and field. Just prior to his arrival at Illinois, Gesteland spent two years as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University where he was the strength and conditioning coach at Morgantown High School, assigned to all sanctioned sports.
Personal:
Gesteland grew up east of Madison, WI. He is a former track and field athlete for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and first aid, CPR and AED.
