Lisa Lubke begins her second season as assistant coach with the Fighting Illini soccer program in 2020. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Lubke primarily works with the team's goalkeepers, while assisting with various other aspects of the program. Lubke came to Illinois after spending the 2018 season with the Northern Colorado Bears.
"I am excited to add Lisa to our staff and our Illini Soccer family," Rayfield said of Lubke at the time of her hire. "Lisa will add a knowledge base that comes from her varied experiences as a player and a coach. She also brings an energy rising from her passion for the game and for developing the players. Lisa's drive fits the Illini motto - Unify. Develop. Inspire. Achieve. I see her impacting our program in each of those ways."
"I'm excited to join the Illini soccer family," Lubke said. "Janet {Rayfield} has built a strong program and I'm really looking forward to working with the talented student-athletes in Champaign."
During her time with the UNC Bears, Lubke helped coach the team to a 12-8-1 record on the way to a Big Sky Tournament Championship match appearance. With Lubke's assistance, the Bears became the first team in Big Sky history to earn 10 or more wins in five consecutive seasons. She worked closely with Bears' goalkeeper, Taylor Washington, who posted four shutouts in 2018, the fifth most by a keeper in UNC Division 1 history.
Prior to her stint at Northern Colorado, Lubke served as a volunteer assistant with the women's soccer program at Santa Clara University.
In addition to collegiate coaching experience, Lubke also brings youth coaching experience to Champaign as she served as the director of goalkeeping for Vision Soccer Club, from 2015-2018. While in that role she also served as head coach of the girls U15 - U18 age groups.
A 2012 graduate of Radford University, Lubke was a two-time all-conference selection for the Highlanders. She was named the 2009 Big South Conference Preseason Player of the Year and earned Preseason Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2010. After leading Radford to two Big South Championships, Lubke continued her playing career at Durham University in the UK where she won a BUCS National Championship.
Lubke earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise, Sport and Health Education from Radford University, and returned to school to earn a Master's degree in Management-Entrepreneurship from Durham University. She holds her C license from the United States Soccer Federation and has her Advanced National Goalkeeper diploma and Premier Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches.
Lubke currently resides in Champaign with her fiancée, Selena.
