  • Threw 55 pitches in three-plus innings at Iowa (5/11) in his second start back following his missed time due to forearm tightness

  • Earned ABCA/Rawlings Second-Team All-Mideast Region honors
  • Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Second-Team All-Big Ten and All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection
  • Joined Bubba Smith (1989) as second Illini to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year
  • Won his final start vs. Georgia Tech (5/31) at the Nashville Regional and improved to a team-best 9-1, which ranked as the second-most wins in the Big Ten
  • His nine wins set the school record for most wins by a freshman, breaking John Kravetz's mark of eight from 2012, and are the most by an Illinois pitcher since Brian Blomquist's 10 in 2005
  • Appeared in 18 games, starting 12 times, and had a team-best 2.79 ERA among starters, which ranked 10th in the Big Ten
  • After allowing nine earned runs in his first two starts, he only allowed 16 earned runs in his final 10 starts, finishing the year with three earned runs or fewer in 10 straight starts

  • Was Big Ten co-Pitcher and Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career after racking up a career-high 11 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout of Penn State (5/10) in which he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning
