Justin Houng joined the Illinois strength and conditioning staff in October 2019. He works primarily with the Fighting Illini baseball and soccer programs. 

Houng came to Illinois from Clemson, where he assisted with Olympic sports strength and conditioning, including as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Clemson baseball team. It was Houng’s second stint at Clemson after serving as a graduate assistant then assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2015-17 with the Tigers, prior to a stop at Towson as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2017-18. 

Prior to joining Clemson the first time, Houng worked as an intern with the strength and conditioning staff at NC State from 2014-2015. While at NC State, he worked with the men’s and women’s tennis programs as well as assisted with Olympic sports coverage.

Houng graduated from Penn State with a degree in kinesiology in May of 2014. He interned with the strength and conditioning staff at Penn State from 2013-2014 and worked closely with over 20 varsity sports.

Houng holds certifications through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is also CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross.
