Emergency Action Plan: Eichelberger Field (Softball)

Address: 1201 West Florida Avenue, Urbana

Venue Directions: Eichelberger Field is located on West Florida (Kirby) Avenue between South Wright Street and South Goodwin Avenue.  The athletic training room is located in the Martin Softball Clubhouse accessible from West Florida (Kirby) Avenue.

Game day Field Access:

Game day field access and ambulance parking is on the first base side of Eichelberger Field, accessible from Goodwin Avenue.

Club House/Athletic Training Room Access:

Martin Clubhouse is located just east of the softball field and is accessible from West Florida (Kirby) Avenue. Primary entrance is on west side of building.

Emergency Personnel: 

Certified athletic trainer and athletic training aide(s) on site for practice and competition; additional sports medicine staff accessible from Memorial Stadium athletic training room  (217-333-6718).

Emergency Communication:

Emergency Equipment:

  • Supplies (AED, splint kit, crutches) located in Martin Softball Clubhouse athletic training room or in home team dugout for practice and competition.
  • AED is located in the hallway of the Martin Softball Clubhouse
  • Ambulance is present for all home games.

Roles of First Responders

  1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
  2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS): CALL 9-1-1
  • Provide name, address, telephone number
  • Number of individuals injured
  • Condition of injured
  • First aid treatment
  • Specific directions for access to venue
  • Other information as requested
  • Be the last to hang-up
  1. Emergency equipment retrieval
  2. Direct EMS to scene
    1. Open appropriate gates (AA1)
    2. Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene:

                                    i.       Clubhouse Athletic Training Room Access (Practice Days)

  •        One person will be at the drive off West Florida (Kirby) Avenue

-OR-

ii. First Base Field Access Gate (Game Days)

  • One person will be at the first base access gate
  1. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area.
  2. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313.
  3. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
