
Fighting Illini Fall in Four-Set Battle at #17 Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Illinois dropped the second match of its West Coast swing, falling to #17 Oregon on the road in four sets on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Fighting Illini saw their seven-match winning streak come to a close following their fourth consecutive ranked contest to start Big Ten play.
Alyssa Aguayo amassed a team-high 12 kills to go alongside eight digs, while Ashlyn Philpot finished with 10 kills and six blocks.
Taylor de Boer tallied 11 kills and two digs, Kristina Starostenko collected nine kills and four blocks, and Paityn Chapman logged nine kills, 17 digs, and five blocks.
Kenna Phelan posted her sixth double-double of the season, recording 41 assists, 12 digs, four kills, and two blocks. Talita Goncalves added 13 digs, while Maya Harris ended the afternoon with 10 digs and two aces.
The first frame featured 14 ties, six lead changes, and eight total set points saved as the sides battled to the Illini's highest-scoring frame of the season. After the Ducks took an early three-point edge, a 5-1 Illini run saw the visitors go in front for the first time. After the Illini established a 21-20 advantage, Oregon used a 4-0 stretch to move within set point. Illinois responded with a 4-0 run of its own before the sides traded points, and it was the Ducks who ultimately took the frame, 31-29.
With the sides tied at three, the Illini began an 8-0 run with Chapman behind the service line to give the away side the lead. Eventually ahead by a 15-7 margin at the media timeout, the Orange and Blue posted a 3-1 stretch to go up by nine. Illinois closed the frame on a 4-1 run to claim the frame, 25-15, and even the match at one set apiece.
The Ducks ultimately won two tightly contested sets in the third and fourth frames to take the home victory.
Illinois (11-4, 3-1 B1G) returns to Huff Hall on Thursday night for a ranked home match against #6 Wisconsin. The Fighting Illini will battle the Badgers at 7:30 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
