Emergency Action Plan: ARC Pool

Address: 201 East Peabody Drive, Champaign

Venue Directions: The ARC Pool is located on East Peabody Drive between South First Street and South Fourth Street.

Pool Access: Pool access is from the NORTH entrance to the ARC (main entrance) on East Peabody Drive.  An elevator is in the NORTHWEST corner of the lobby to access the ground level and pool.

Emergency Personnel: 

Certified athletic trainer and athletic training aide(s) on site for practice and competition; additional sports medicine staff accessible from Memorial Stadium athletic training room (217-333-6718).

Emergency Communication:

Emergency Equipment: 

• Supplies (oxygen, spine board) maintained in lifeguard office located on the northeast end of the pool.
• AED located in the hallway between the indoor and outdoor pools on east wall.

Roles of First Responders

1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS): 

CALL 9-1-1

• Provide name, address, telephone number
• Number of individuals injured
• Condition of injured
• First aid treatment
• Specific directions for access to venue
• Other information as requested 
• Be the last to hang-up

3. Emergency equipment retrieval 
4. Direct EMS to scene 

a. Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene: 

• One person at the NORTH ARC entrance (main entrance)  

5. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area. 
6. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313. 
7. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
