Emergency Action Plan: Memorial Stadium Football Field

Address: 1402 South First Street, Champaign

Venue Directions: Memorial Stadium is located on South First Street between West Kirby Avenue and East Peabody Drive.

Direct Field Access: Overhead garage door access to the field is from Irwin Drive off South First Street.  The overhead door is located on the northwest side of the stadium.

Secondary field access is available from West Kirby Avenue through the south end zone gate.

Emergency Personnel: 

Certified athletic trainers, athletic training aide(s), and physicians are on site for practice and competition. EMS crew is stationed with an ambulance for response to emergency on the field-of-play in the northwest tower parking garage. 

Emergency Communication: 

Fixed telephone line located in Memorial Stadium athletic training room (217-333-6718). Portable radio communication utilized by athletic training staff during practice and competition.

Emergency Equipment (Football Game and Practice):  

• Supplies (AED and oxygen found in the Orange Emergency kit, splint kit, and crutches) are located on home sidelines at 50 yard line; 
• MedBed Gator cart (spine board) parked in the northwest tower parking garage. 

Roles of First Responders

1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete.
2. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS): 

CALL 9-1-1

• Provide name, address, telephone number
• Number of individuals injured
• Condition of injured
• First aid treatment
• Specific directions for access to venue
• Other information as requested 
• Be the last to hang-up

3. Emergency equipment retrieval 
4. Direct EMS to scene
   • Designate an individual to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene: 
     • Primary Access: One person at overhead door at NORTHWEST corner of stadium (#1 on map)
     • Secondary Access: One person at the SOUTH end zone gate (#2 on map)

5. Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area. 
6. All transported student-athletes will be directed to Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL; 217-383-3313.
7. A staff member (athletic trainer or assistant coach) will accompany student-athlete to the hospital in the ambulance.
