
Illini Tied for Fifth at The Bruzzy at 9-Under

TROPHY CLUB, Texas – Illinois women's golf finished the first day of The Bruzzy presented by Ashley Herrera tied for fifth place after carding a team total of 567 (-9) through 36 holes. Meadow Tian and Eileen Lee made their Fighting Illini debuts on Tuesday in the Lone Star State.
Illinois is tied for fifth behind Oklahoma (-19), UTSA (-15), Texas A&M (-12), and Texas Tech (-10). The Fighting Illini opened the day with a team round of 284 (-4) and followed that up with a second round of 283 (-5).
Tian led the way for the Illini on the team scorecard, posting a 71 (-1) in the first round and a 70 (-2) in the second round to finish the day tied for 15th at 141 (-3). Tian tallied an eagle on the par-4 12th hole in the first round and sank 10 birdies across the day.
Lee opened her first collegiate tournament with a 69 (-3) before carding a 73 (+1) in the second round. She sits tied for 20th at 142 (-2). Lee registered an eagle on the par-4 ninth hole in the opening round and tallied five birdies on the day.
After opening with a 2-over 74, senior Erica Lee followed with a 68 (-4) in the second round, moving into a tie for 20th at 142 (-2). She matched her career-low round score of -4 (68), set last fall at the Badger Invitational and tallied seven birdies across the 36 holes.
Junior Tavia Burgess carded rounds of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1) to finish the day tied for 27th at 144 (E). She recorded five birdies on day one.
Alexis Myers posted rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E) to sit tied for 34th at 145 (+1). The sophomore sank seven birdies across the first two rounds.
Competing as an individual, Sofia Vargas fired a career-best 64 (-8) in the opening round before posting a 72 (E) in the afternoon. She finished the day tied for third at 136 (-8). Vargas' 8-under 64 tied for the third-best round by an individual in program history. The Illini junior eagled the par-5 14th hole in the first round of play and racked up eight more birdies in the round and 11 on the day.
