Box Score MINNEAPOLIS — Illinois softball (9-26, 1-8 Big Ten) fell to Minnesota, 2-0, at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Karley Yergler got the start in the circle, conceding just two earned runs, while Ellie Haggard was 2-for-3 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maggie Werner led off with a solo home run to center field for the Gophers, and Cassie Johnson notched a base hit, before Yergler recorded a pair of strikeouts to end the inning.
The next four frames passed scoreless, despite base hits from Ellie Haggard in the second, and Adisyn Caryl in the sixth. Yergler logged another duo of strikeouts, preventing Minnesota from adding any runs through the fifth.
In the sixth, Jessa Snippes tallied an RBI single, increasing Minnesota's lead to two. Haggard added her second hit in the final inning and Gabrielle Debevec also notched a hit, but the final three outs came before Illinois could get on the board.
