SEATTLE – No. 18 Illinois soccer (8-1-1, 1-1-1 B1G) lost its first match of the season to Washington (5-1-4, 2-0-1 B1G), 2-1, on Sunday (Sept. 21) in Husky Soccer Stadium.
Illinois fell behind early with a self-inflicted wound in the 12th minute netting an own goal to trail 1-0 at the half. Washington scored again in the 54th minute to make it 2-0.
Cayla Jackson got the Fighting Illini on the board in the 61st minute off a corner kick. There was some chaos inside the box before it found Jackson's right foot and she buried it to cut into the Husky lead for her fourth goal of the season. However, it was too late and Illinois fell, 2-1.
Washington got off 18 shots compared to Illinois' seven. Izzy Lee made four saves on five shots on goal.
Illinois returns to Demirjian Park on Thursday (Sept. 25) to take on No. 8 Penn State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
