CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – One of the most anticipated and exciting weeks of the golf calendar is upon us as the best players in the world prepare to tee off at famed Augusta National Golf Club for 89th edition of the Masters.
Fighting Illini men's golf alums Brian Campbell and Thomas Detry will each compete in the field at the Masters for the first time, having each secured their first-career PGA TOUR tournament wins earlier this season at the Mexico Open and Phoenix Open, respectively.
The duo was recently featured alongside other first-time Masters participants in an article on Masters.com.
Detry, paired with Tony Finau and Maverick McNealy in Group 16, will tee off Thursday beginning at 9:37 a.m. CT. Three groups later, Campbell will open Round 1 at 10:10 a.m. CT in a paired with Jose Maria Olazabal and Thirston Lawrence in Group 19.

Detry is the fourth player representing Belgium to compete in the Masters, joining Flory Van Donck, Nicolas Colsaerts and former Illini teammate Thomas Pieters. The two-time Olympian for Belgium has top-15 finishes in each of his last three major starts, including T4 in the PGA Championship at Valhalla and T14 in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 last year.
Campbell is making fourth major championship start. In the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, he finished T27 to earn low amateur honors. Last season, he finished T56 at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
