WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Illinois men's golf team – No. 11 nationally in the latest NCAA Division I team rankings and No. 12 in the GCAA's Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll -- tees off this weekend at the 20th Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by conference foe Purdue, in the team's final regular-season event leading into the 2025 Big Ten Championship.
THE SETTING
The Boilermaker Invitational will be hosted for the third consecutive time in the event's 20-year run at Purdue's Ackerman-Allen Course after the first 17 were played at the adjacent Kampen Golf Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
The Ackerman-Allen Course (Par 71 / 7,275 yards), a Pete Dye design, is an 18-hole, parkland-style, championship golf course featuring large bent-grass greens, fairways and tees. The layout presents a strong challenge with rolling hills, tree-lined fairways, white sand bunkers, and minimal water hazards.
The Boilermaker Individual event, meanwhile, will be hosted at the Kampen Course (Par 72 / 7,465 yards).
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be a five-count-four format played over two days, with 36 holes slated for Saturday, followed by Sunday's final round. Both days of competition are slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT.
THE FIELD
The Boilermaker Invitational features an 18-team field highlighted by six Big Ten programs. The 11th-ranked Illini are one of four top-50 teams in the field, along with host Purdue (37), Notre Dame (38), and Marquette (50). Michigan State (65), Michigan (73), Indiana (79), Iowa (86), and Miami (OH) (96) all rank inside the top 100, followed by Toledo (122), Northern Illinois (134), Ball State (161), Butler (171), South Dakota (180), South Dakota State (181), DePaul (195), and Bowling Green (228) to complete the field.

ILLINI AT THE BOILERMAKER INVITATIONAL
The Fighting Illini have competed in the Boilermaker Invitational 12 times since 2005, capturing five team titles in 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2022. Five different Fighting Illini golfers have also garnered six medalist honors at the event. Chris DeForest and Luke Guthrie won in 2010 and 2012, respectively. In 2015, Thomas Detry and Charlie Danielson tied for top honors, with teammates Dylan Meyer and Brian Campbell finishing third and fourth, respectively that year. Danielson repeated as champion in 2016, edging out teammate Nick Hardy. Adrien Dumont de Chassart won the 2022 tourney, Illinois' last time in the field.
Senior Jackson Buchanan will be making his second start at the Boilermaker Invitational. As a freshman in 2022, he recorded the first of his 14-career top-five finishes, carding a 212 (-1) to place fourth at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course.
Last season on the same course at the Purdue Fall Invitational, Buchanan also carded a 204 (-9) to secure the second of his four collegiate tournament victories. Max Herendeen and Ryan Voois (as an individual competitor) tied for sixth at 209 (-4), while Ethan Wilson (+10) tied for 62nd.
