CORDOVA, Tenn. – Sophomore Max Herendeen and junior Ryan Voois sit inside the top five of the individual race, and the 10th-ranked Fighting Illini are alone in second as a team heading into the final round of play, Tuesday, at the Memphis Intercollegiate: Spirited by Old Dominick
Herendeen is even par through two rounds, carding scores of 71 and 73 and sits three shots off the pace of 36-hole leader Diego Lourenco of host Memphis (-3). Voois is two shots behind Herendeen's pace, following up his opening 77 (+5) with a team-best 69 (-3) in Round 2. Voois is tied for the tournament lead with eight birdies, including five in the afternoon.
Freshman Trey Marrion and classmate Jake Birdwell, who is competing as an individual, are both tied for 15th at 5-over. Sophomore Ethan Wilson is 7-over in a tie for 19th and senior Jackson Buchanan is 10-over in a tie for 32nd in the 84-player field heading into the final round.
As a team, the Illini carded rounds of 298 (+10) and 291 (+3) and are five strokes off lead held by host Memphis (+8). Southern Miss (+24) sits behind the Illini in third, while Samford and Austin Peay round out the top five in the team race at 31-over.
Tuesday's final round is set to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Illini, paired with Memphis and USM will begin on Holes 1-3. Live scoring is available via Clippd scoreboard.
