CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Fighting Illini goalkeeper Izzy Lee was one of 24 players called up to the first U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team training camp of 2025, announced today by U.S. Soccer.
The U-23 camp will be led by Lisa Cole, who is the lead WNT Player Pathway scout under WNT head coach Emma Hayes, and will be held from March 31 - April 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
"Izzy's invitation to the U-23 National Team camp is a testament to her relentless work ethic, incredible consistency and the competitive environment created by our goalkeeper group," Illinois soccer head coach Katie Hultin said. "We are thrilled for Izzy and Illinois soccer and look forward to watching her continue to grow into one of the best keepers in the country."
Lee, a redshirt sophomore from Western Springs, Ill., recorded a total of 97 saves during the 2024 season, which ranked tied for sixth-most all-time in a single season in program history and it also ranked 15th nationally at the conclusion of the regular season.
She led all Big Ten keepers in saves and in saves per game (5.39) at the conclusion of the regular season and her 80.2 save percentage was the second-highest mark among conference keepers that saw at least 1,620 minutes of action on the season. It was the highest mark by an Illini keeper since Sami Sample posted an 82.4 percent mark during the Big Ten-only 12-game slate in 2020 and it was the highest mark by an Illini keeper in a season under regular circumstances since Alexandra Kapicka posted an 81.9 save percentage in 2010.
Lee's 5.21 goals prevented during Big Ten play ranked second among conference keepers and at the conclusion of regular season play and her 5.39 saves per game ranked fifth nationally among keepers that saw at least 1,620 minutes of action.
"I couldn't be happier for Izzy," Illinois soccer assistant coach Sammy Jo Prudhomme said. "I've seen her work hard day in and day out to get better and strive to be her best, in every way, for herself and her teammates. She has earned this call up and I'm excited for her to have the opportunity to compete and grow at the next level."
Lee is one of five college players named to the roster and is the only Big Ten player of that group.
