EVANSTON, Ill. -- Illinois baseball (12-9, 2-4) dropped the series finale to Northwestern (10-11, 3-3), 14-4, in seven innings, today at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Wildcats took an 8-0 lead after three innings, scoring five runs in the second to break the game open.

The Illini scored four times in the sixth, on a Kyle Schupmann sacrifice fly and a three-run homer from Collin Jennings, but six runs from the hosts in the seventh handed the Orange and Blue the 14-4 run-rule defeat.

The Fighting Illini return to action on Tuesday for a Braggin' Rights showdown vs. Missouri at Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT.
