CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois has added blue-chip recruit Sasha Colleu to its 2025 signing class, head coach Brad Dancer announced on Tuesday.
Born in Paris, France, and now a native of Miami, Florida, Colleu has signed a Big Ten Athletics Scholarship Agreement and will join the Fighting Illini in the fall as the third member of the team's highly ranked 2025 recruiting class.
"We are excited to bring Sasha into the Illini family," Dancer said. "He has an incredible reputation as a disciplined worker and a tenacious competitor. We know from his academic standards that he will be a great asset to the University. When he visited, we felt a great connection to his self vision. Sasha is going to make a big impact for Illinois Tennis."
Colleu, who attends IMG Academy, is rated as a blue-chip recruit and is the No. 19-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025 by Tennis Recruiting Network
Holding a career-high ITF juniors ranking of No. 143, Colleu has won two doubles titles on the ITF juniors circuit, securing tournament wins at J100 Quebec City in September and J100 Mexico City in October.
"I chose Illinois because I felt like it was the best place for me to develop as a tennis player but also as a person," Colleu said. "I really enjoyed the team culture and could see myself there working hard to achieve our team and personal goals. Also, the effort that all the coaches put into helping the team get to where they want to be made me want to go here and experience that daily. Lastly, I really loved the energy that Coach Dancer brings to practice, which made him stand out to me."
Colleu joins David Bakonyi and Adam Jilly in the Illini's 2025 signing class, which was already Tennis Recruiting Network's top-ranked class in the Big Ten and the No. 9 class in the country prior to the addition of Colleu.
