CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Ian Sandoval continues to stack the accolades after an inspired performance vs. No. 4 Nebraska on Jan. 31, 2025. The latest addition to his accolades is the Rookie of the Week honor, announced by the CGA on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The freshman earned career highs on floor (13.600), parallel bars (13.500), and high bar (13.050) and took home three event titles in the way to Illinois' 321.300-320.800 victory over No. 4 Nebraska.
This award marks the second-straight CGA Rookie of the Week recognition for the Frisco, Texas native. Additionally, Sandoval has now earned four awards this week after earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Gymnast of the Week honors on Feb. 4, and Inside Gymnastics' NCAA Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 3.
The Illini will return to competition on Saturday, Feb. 8, as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the No. 7 Wolverines at 1 p.m. CT.
